Have you heard of Da Vinci? No, not the famous painter, but the famous, high-tech robotic surgical equipment. If you haven’t, you’re in for an eye-opening surprise. Robotic surgery offers several forms of robotic equipment, such as robotic-assisted laparoscopic, endoscopic, and thoracoscopy surgical procedures. Robotic surgery involves a combination of computer-assisted technologies with the finest and newest surgical tools. The method offers access to different areas of the body through the use of special scopes and equipment. This equipment is NOT totally controlled by a robot, but by specially trained surgeons who use a monitor and hand attachments in the operating room.

Da Vinci robotic surgery makes use of computerized medical technologies and robotics that literally mimic hand movements of a surgeon through the use of robotic arms and instruments. This enables surgeons to provide extremely precise and fine movements in surgical capabilities. Today, Da Vinci robotic surgery is used for:

  • Cardiovascular surgery
  • Gynecology
  • Endocrine surgery
  • Urology
  • General surgery

Where do you find Da Vinci? More fine hospitals around the world are taking advantage of robotic surgery, including the U.S., Great Britain and Australia, as well as countries like Turkey, Jordan and locations throughout Southeast Asia.

Da Vinci robotic surgery offers huge benefits to patients undergoing surgical procedures; less blood loss, pain, and scarring. The method offers most patients shorter recovery and recuperation and reduces risk of infection and complications.

For more information regarding Da Vinci robotic surgery, and where you can find it abroad, visit PlacidWay.com, a leading medical resource and provider based in Denver, Colorado.

Accreditation shows quality, and in healthcare environments, guarantees that facilities have met minimum standards and guidelines offered by various domestic and international quality boards.

For example, individuals desire quality in healthcare, whether for dental, cosmetic, bariatric or other treatments and surgical procedures. Patients deserve to know that staff is trained, facilities are clean and that procedures follow standards that reduce chances of error, infection or negligence.

Medical travelers must take the time to assess standards of care in foreign destinations. Take into consideration the following factors:

  • Education and certification of facility medical staff
  • Continuing educational opportunities for medical staff
  • Track record of the clinic or hospital
  • Infection control measures
  • Potential risk of tropical disease/infections

Whether you’re seeking alternative cancer treatments in Turkey or the latest in spine surgery technology from South Korea, increased mobility with a knee or hip replacement surgical procedure in India, or dental implants in Mexico, make sure the facility you choose is accredited.

Facilities with accreditations granted by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and/or the Joint Commission International (JCI) receive higher ratings, income, and interest from medical travelers. An International Organization for Standardization (ISO) rating accredits reputable medical institutions, no matter where they are located.

For more information regarding accreditation and credentials of medical facilities abroad, visit PlacidWay.com, an international medical resource and provider that offers global travelers the best in medical and dental care services.

Whether you want to turn the clock back ten years or you want to do something to make yourself look and feel better, skin resurfacing and rejuvenation are two procedures offered at a variety of medical tourism destinations around the world. Treat yourself to a fabulous getaway to the place you always wanted to visit, and then come home looking years younger.

Destinations such as Greece, Turkey, and Mexico all offer plenty of treatment options in the beautiful settings and high-quality accommodations. So what can skin rejuvenation do for you? Here are just some of the conditions that resurfacing or rejuvenation reverse:

  • Pigmentation– Sun spots, freckles or darkened patches due to excess sun exposure
  • Skin tone – As you age, the skin loses elasticity and collagen
  • Wrinkles– Static (which never change appearance whether you move your face or not) or dynamic (expression lines that deepen with movements in the face)
  • Scars– Resulting from acne or other skin traumas

Types of procedures you will find at such international centers include:

Since skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments have a huge impact on your appearance, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before you book your trip to enhance the success of the procedure for long-term results:

  • Avoid smoking – It increases the rate at which the skin ages and will decrease effects of such treatments
  • Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle
  • Maintain realistic expectations for the end result to avoid overdoing it

Check out information regarding skin care centers at PlacidWay.com to learn about the various treatment options and destinations.

Stefan is a native male Bulgarian who sought expert and qualified care after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He underwent care in his native Bulgaria, and two surgeries, which left him in a wheelchair and unable to talk or move his arms or legs. Seeking more specialized treatment, Stefan traveled to the Anadolu Medical Center in Turkey. Following his care there, he was able to once again walk and talk.

“We had already heard that this pace employed experienced specialists and used state-of-the-art technology. However, we could never have imagined what we saw. This truly is somewhere different. Yesterday, the Anadolu Medical Center Managing Director came to visit me in my room. I would have never seen such attention in any hospital in Bulgaria,” writes Stefan of his experiences at Anadolu.

Anadolu surgeons are experienced in neurology treatments and surgical procedures for conditions such as ALS, encephalitis, poliomyelitis and traumatic brain injury, among others. A number of medical conditions, including cancers, Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy and other brain conditions, can affect the central and peripheral nervous system.

Finding the best in care is not always easy, but like Stefan, finding the right doctor and the right facility that meets your needs and shares in your care with concern and compassion go a long way toward finding the right kind of help.

Jessica was appalled when she found out the drug her doctor recommended for her chemotherapy treatments, called Cytoxan, would cost approximately $2,000 per session. Hers medical bills were certain to soar to $300,000 a year. The astronomical cost of treating her kidney cancer was certain to devastate her family’s financial stability in weeks.

Drugs like Herceptin, Avastin and Zometa cost over $20,000 for one month of treatment, which breaks down to approximately $6,254.95 for a single dose of Herceptin and $9,496.47 for one dose of Avastin. These costs don’t include the treatments to inject the drugs.

While certain factors determine which treatments provide optimal results, including the type of cancer, the organs affected, and the stage the cancer is in, traditional cancer therapies that include chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and biological or hormone therapy may also factor into treatment plans.

No one should have to choose between cancer treatment and financial ruin. Cancer treatment centers in foreign locations offer hope. Cancer treatment centers like the Apollo Victor Hospital in Goa, India, and BioCare Hospital & Health Center in Tijuana, Mexico or the Anadolu Medical Center in Turkey, offer cancer treatment for many types of cancer, including bone and pancreatic cancer, colon cancer as well as alternative cancer treatment options.

Alternative treatments for cancer through stem cell therapies are also offered at places like Indus Valley Ayurveda Center in Mysore, India. The key is that you have choices. To learn more about your options regarding more affordable cancer care abroad, visit PlacidWay.com. Jessica was glad she did.

Let’s just do some quick comparisons here in regard to costs for medical care, just to set the stage. First, we’ll start with a list of what certain procedures in the U.S. cost, and then compare costs in other countries. Don’t mistake cheaper costs with sub-standard care or technology. We’re comparing U.S. costs with costs in accredited hospitals or through internationally certified doctors or surgeons.

U.S.

Angioplasty (balloon and with stents) – may cost up to $57,000

Single heart bypass – $15,000 to $20,000+

Valve replacement – $25,000 per valve

Hip replacement – $43,000+

India

Hip replacement – $9,500

Valve replacement – $9,500 per valve

Angioplasty – $11,000

Single heart bypass – $10,000

This is just a sampling of costs in India, at internationally acclaimed facilities like the BLK Memorial Hospital in New Delhi or the Apollo Victor Hospital in Goa. We haven’t even mentioned lower costs for all types of care in facilities around the globe, from Mexico and South American destinations to those found in Turkey, Croatia, Greece and Switzerland, not to mention Thailand and Singapore.

Visit Bangpakok 9 International Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand or Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey for a sampling of their services and costs. You’ll likely be surprised, as facilities such as these are accredited, with internationally known and respected doctors and surgeons.

The Madras Joint Replacement Center in Chennai and the Wooridul Spine Hospital in South Korea are just a few of the best hospitals for medical care in specialized fields in the world, and all offering cheaper prices for care than you’d find in the U.S. and other leading
countries abroad.

Americans are getting obsessed with fat. Either you’re overweight or underweight and the news today announced a “Weight Stigma Awareness Week”. While being overweight is not good for health reasons, those dealing with it certainly don’t need to deal with the growing stigma attached to being overweight or obese. Not all overweight people are binge eaters or struggling with bulimia.

However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, perceptions regarding those who are overweight or obese are changing yet again. Prejudice against heavy people is on the rise. Unfortunately, many now equate obesity as laziness and inability to work at optimal levels.  In America alone, nearly $60 billion goes into the diet industry, and growing numbers of overweight and obese are seeking bariatric surgery to help reduce their health risks. Fat is not about lazy.

Regardless of the cause of obesity – convenience of fast food, reduced physical education programs in school, emotional disorders or just plain genetics, health is important. Obesity-related health problems are on the rise, from Type 2 diabetes to orthopedic problems to sleep apnea and depression. Wanting to take advantage of obesity or bariatric surgery is one thing, accessing it another. Most U.S. healthcare insurance plans don’t cover the cost of bariatric surgery, as it is considered an elective procedure for most.

However, you have options. Check out PlacidWay.com for obesity surgery abroad. Obesity surgery in India, weight loss surgery in Thailand or gastric bypass surgery in Argentina is all options. Some of the best weight loss surgery in Europe is affordable, as is affordable bariatric surgery in Mexico.  From the Family Hospital or the supreme skills of Obesity Surgery’s Dr. Jorge Maytorena in Mexico, to the Anadolu Medical Center in Istanbul, you have choices.
