Have you heard of Da Vinci? No, not the famous painter, but the famous, high-tech robotic surgical equipment. If you haven’t, you’re in for an eye-opening surprise. Robotic surgery offers several forms of robotic equipment, such as robotic-assisted laparoscopic, endoscopic, and thoracoscopy surgical procedures. Robotic surgery involves a combination of computer-assisted technologies with the finest and newest surgical tools. The method offers access to different areas of the body through the use of special scopes and equipment. This equipment is NOT totally controlled by a robot, but by specially trained surgeons who use a monitor and hand attachments in the operating room.

Da Vinci robotic surgery makes use of computerized medical technologies and robotics that literally mimic hand movements of a surgeon through the use of robotic arms and instruments. This enables surgeons to provide extremely precise and fine movements in surgical capabilities. Today, Da Vinci robotic surgery is used for:

  • Cardiovascular surgery
  • Gynecology
  • Endocrine surgery
  • Urology
  • General surgery

Where do you find Da Vinci? More fine hospitals around the world are taking advantage of robotic surgery, including the U.S., Great Britain and Australia, as well as countries like Turkey, Jordan and locations throughout Southeast Asia.

Da Vinci robotic surgery offers huge benefits to patients undergoing surgical procedures; less blood loss, pain, and scarring. The method offers most patients shorter recovery and recuperation and reduces risk of infection and complications.

For more information regarding Da Vinci robotic surgery, and where you can find it abroad, visit PlacidWay.com, a leading medical resource and provider based in Denver, Colorado.

Due to age, simple wear and tear, or an injury, at some point in time you may need hip surgery. Do you know the difference between a partial or full hip replacement procedure? Are you up on your hip joint replacement prosthetics? And while we’re at it, do you know about proximal hip replacement?

Proximal hip replacement refers to replacement of the upper portion of the femur closest to or ‘proximal’ to the hip socket. A very common reason for hip replacement surgery is fracture in the femoral neck. Femoral neck fractures are common at the base of the head, or the top part of the femur that fits into the hip socket. In such cases, partial hip replacement or total hip replacement is often necessary.

Okay, that’s all fine and good, but let’s get down to the brass tacks. What does it cost? Of course, any hip replacement cost depends on whether your orthopedic surgeon recommends partial or total hip replacement. In the U.S., a hip replacement procedure can cost around $43,000 to $50,000.  However, medical travelers visiting countries like Thailand, India and Singapore will spend about $9,000-$11,000 for proximal hip replacement procedures.

Whether you receive your proximal hip replacement at home or abroad, you need to find the right doctor. Some orthopedic surgeons also sub-specialize in sports or trauma medicine, while others specialize in the treatment of arthritis, spinal cord or congenital defect diseases or conditions.  Learn all you can about proximal hip replacement procedures so you can make educated decisions about your medical care.

Thanks to technology, an electronic medical record makes it easier to share and transfer medical information between physicians in your country as well as foreign medical providers. This capability makes medical tourism easier than ever. Why change from paper to electronic records? For several reasons. First, to save on administration costs in tracking and filing sometimes-massive amounts of paper accumulated for patients.

Not only that, but electronic records increase speed and efficiency in health care delivery options. Electronic records can be accesses through secure passwords, fingerprints and voice-activated software that increase use of telemetry, an increasingly popular mode of communication between physicians. Your doctor in the U.K. can talk directly with and share data-secured medical information from your health record to a cancer specialist in India, Turkey or the U.S. in a matter of moments.

You worry about confidentiality, but electronic medical records are safer and more secure than your paper record. Computer and IT technology only gives direct access to your medical record to those qualified to view and share your information. Identification systems ensure security and sharing systems ensure your confidentiality. Instead of faxing your information to another doctor or medical provider, for all to see, your private information is transmitted through a secure hospital system network right into the hands of the doctor who needs it and no one else.

As more people travel across borders for health and wellness, cancer therapy, orthopedic surgery, dental care and cosmetic surgery or fertility treatments, ease of transfer of information improves and benefits your care.

The field of medical tourism is a growing option for surgery abroad, cheap surgery (not meant to imply inexperienced or lesser quality surgery) and medical travel. Still, take the time to plan and organize for your not only medical stay in a beautiful and high-quality medical facility in a foreign country, but to make the most of the experience.

Before you venture off for any type of wellness tourism, make sure that you have a valid and signed passport (most countries require at least several blank pages and may require six blank pages) and a non-expired visa if you visit a medical facility in a country that requires visas. Whether you’re traveling to Mexico or Croatia, know what you need before you go.

Always complete the emergency contact information in your passport, have the contact name, and phone number of consular personnel from the nearest U.S. Embassy for your intended destination for emergencies. Register with the State Department, which you can do online, so they can contact you in the event of an emergency back home. Registering also allows your safety in the event of trouble overseas (this can include a natural disaster or a threat from local politics or issues), and enables you to receive up-to-date warnings if anything’s going on in your intended travel area.

Dozens of countries abroad offer safe, effective and beautiful medical destinations for health and wellness and care in fields ranging from dentistry to spine surgery. PlacidWay, an international medical resource and provider based in Denver, Colorado, wants you to enjoy and benefit from your medical travel abroad. Still, be prepared, plan accordingly and have a safe trip.

Another patient has left the Madras Joint Replacement Center in Chennai, India a happy customer. With the skills of Dr. A.K. Venkatachalam, it’s not difficult to see why. Stephen R., a 52-year-old British citizen living in Uganda, ventured to India for hip surgery called a Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure. Recently diagnosed with arthritis of the hip, Stephen was finding it difficult to get around, and then pain he experienced was severely limiting his formerly active lifestyle and quality of life.

His doctor informed him that the only cure was a hip replacement. Stephen was not happy about that, and sent his medical information off to several doctors in the U.K. for a second opinion.  His diagnosis was confirmed and he was given several quotes regarding cost of hip replacement surgery. Friends told him to
consider traveling to India, where surgery was much cheaper.

Stephen contacted Dr. Venkatachalam of the Madras Joint Replacement Center by email. He received a prompt reply. Not wanting to take much time away from his business, Stephen scheduled an appointment with Dr.  Venkatachalam within two weeks (nearly unheard of back home) and then agreed to a Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure, which he underwent several days later.

Stephen was given excellent care, 24-hour nurses following the surgical procedure. Only eight days post-surgery, Stephen is walking well with one crutch and he feels improvement every day. He’s happy to share his story and his recommendation for others to travel to India for orthopedic procedures from excellent and highly trained orthopedic surgeons like Dr. Venkatachalam. Stephen is exercising his right hip with physical therapy every day. A physiotherapist visits him in his hotel room every night.

For more information regarding Dr. Venkatachalam and the Madras Joint Replacement Center  visit PlacidWay.com, an international medical provider and resource, or Dr. Venkatachalam.

Jessica wanted a baby so badly that her life began to feel empty and meaningless without one. The problem was, Jessica was having trouble conceiving. She’d tried all the folk remedies, visited her OB/GYN in her homeland and kept on hoping, without success.

Then, a friend told her about Adiva, a fertility center located in New Delhi, India. She and her husband decided to give them a try. They were out of options at home. She did sit down and research the facility and their credentials through PlacidWay. She read the profile about Dr. Rita Bakshi, a reproductive specialist. She read about their success with IVF or in vitro fertilization techniques.

Long story short, Jessica underwent nine unsuccessful attempts at IVF and had just about resolved herself to the fact that she was barren. However, Dr. Bakshi convinced her to try one more time. The tenth attempt was the charm. Today, Jessica is the proud Momma of an active little boy. Adiva and the staff of caring and compassionate doctors and nursing staff at Adiva gave her hope and helped her dreams come true.

In vitro fertilization is still one of the most common methods of conception for women who have difficulty conceiving. During the IVF process, women are injected with hormones that increase the body’s supply of viable eggs.

For additional information regarding infertility treatments and specialists from around the world, access PlacidWay, a growing leader in the field of medical tourism, resources and information that offers global medical travelers their own chances of success and opportunities for their own dreams to come true.
