Where the heck do you go these days for a little R&R? What about the astronomical costs of retreats and spas in the U.S.? Who can afford that these days? Well, there’s an option. For the ultimate in true relaxation and rejuvenation therapies, check out the possibility of traveling. Yes, traveling. If you know how to shop and where to look, you can travel for some R&R (flights and stay) for cheaper than if you spent a week at a comparative resort in fancy spas in the U.S.

If you want a starting place to look, try India. An ancient form of Indian medicine, known as Ayurveda, is practiced today not only in India, but around the world. Ayurvedic medicine is one of the oldest systems of medical care that incorporates body, mind and spirit in a number of herbal, food and physical treatments. Ayurveda is alternative or natural health care.

Travelers to India, Thailand, and Singapore can find this ancient form health and wellness for the treatment and relief of stress, joint and muscle health, mental health, and many forms of illness. As a matter of fact,  Ayurvedic  yoga exercises encourage your body’s glands and organs to produce healing chemicals.  Medical practitioners today acknowledge the benefits of combining Ayurveda, yoga and meditation as a natural and alternative treatment for depression.

Folk medicine, regardless of its origins, has withstood the test of time. For information regarding alternative medical treatments, and facilities abroad that offer affordable treatments, visit PlacidWay.com.

Thanks to technology, an electronic medical record makes it easier to share and transfer medical information between physicians in your country as well as foreign medical providers. This capability makes medical tourism easier than ever. Why change from paper to electronic records? For several reasons. First, to save on administration costs in tracking and filing sometimes-massive amounts of paper accumulated for patients.

Not only that, but electronic records increase speed and efficiency in health care delivery options. Electronic records can be accesses through secure passwords, fingerprints and voice-activated software that increase use of telemetry, an increasingly popular mode of communication between physicians. Your doctor in the U.K. can talk directly with and share data-secured medical information from your health record to a cancer specialist in India, Turkey or the U.S. in a matter of moments.

You worry about confidentiality, but electronic medical records are safer and more secure than your paper record. Computer and IT technology only gives direct access to your medical record to those qualified to view and share your information. Identification systems ensure security and sharing systems ensure your confidentiality. Instead of faxing your information to another doctor or medical provider, for all to see, your private information is transmitted through a secure hospital system network right into the hands of the doctor who needs it and no one else.

As more people travel across borders for health and wellness, cancer therapy, orthopedic surgery, dental care and cosmetic surgery or fertility treatments, ease of transfer of information improves and benefits your care.

Is your teen obese? If he or she is, what are you going to do about it? Most of us, at least in today’s economy, are unable to set aside $20,000 for a bariatric surgery procedure like sleeve gastrectomy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from going abroad for the same surgery. Doing so can save you up to half on costs. Does this mean settling for less skills, expertise or experience? Not at all.

First, however, learn more about sleeve gastrectomy for teens. For example, check out these guidelines for bariatric surgery for those less than 18 years of age:

  • You must try for at least 6 months to lose weight on your own under the advice of your pediatrician or family doctor.
  • You may have a BMI (body mass index) over 40, with a serious weight-related issue
  • You may have a BMI of over 50 with less severe obesity-related issues

Getting your child’s weight back on track may save their life. Obesity related conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, stroke and metabolic and orthopedic conditions have a direct and negative effect on your teen’s future health and wellness, not to mention quality  of life.

Money should not be the deciding factor in anyone’s health and wellness. Nearly half of patients who receive sleeve gastrectomy procedures in locations such as Mexico come from the United States. Find out more about gastric sleeve procedures for teens. Visit PlacidWay.com, an international medical resource and provider based in Denver, Colorado.

Obesity surgery costs what? Who has that  kind of money these days! Janene didn’t know that most obesity or bariatric  surgery procedures cost between 15,000 and $30,000, offering everything from  laparoscopic gastric banding to vertical banded gastroplasty to gastric bypass. Her heart sank. This year, she was determined to take charge of her weight, her  health and her long term wellness.

The cost of elective bariatric surgery stopped  her in her tracks as her disappointment rose. Janene knew that most health  insurance plans don’t cover gastric bariatric surgery or obesity surgery costs,  but because she’d recently been diagnosed with diabetes, she’d hoped her health  insurance carrier would help her pick up costs to get healthy again.

Janene got on the phone and called her  friend, who told her to check out other options, such as traveling outside of  the U.S. for surgery. Janene was hesitant. After all, no other country was a  good at surgery as the U.S., right? Wrong. Janene did as her friend suggested and did some research. She found facilities like Mexicali Obesity Solutions in  Mexicali, Mexico or 365 mc’s Bariatric Surgery Center in Seoul, South Korea,  just two of dozens of obesity surgery centers found around the globe, offering  state of the art techniques and procedures at vastly reduced costs.

Sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding and  gastric bypass weight loss procedures were available in other countries, at  lower prices than those found in the U.S. but offering some of the best obesity  surgeons in the world, with sky-high qualifications, expertise and experience  in their fields.

For more information about traveling  abroad for weight loss procedures for treatments or bariatric surgical  procedures, visit PlacidWay.com.

Medical tourism today is not the medical tourism of a decade ago. So much has changed that it’s nearly impossible to remark on all the differences, but one thing is certain – medical tourism has grown into a respected and viable option for medical travelers across the globe.

The medical tourism industry has become a stable method of health and wellness care, preventive medicine and affordable, quality and safe treatment for individuals from countries in South Africa, South America, Central Europe and Southeast Asia. Whether you’re looking for LASIK eye care, dental reconstruction, spine care or a heart transplant, you now have more options than ever before.

Millions of people are now seeking international destinations for medical care in locations not limited to India, a well-deserved leader in the field of medical tourism. Countries like S. Korea, Croatia, Turkey, and Egypt and Jordan are fast earning their wings by providing certified, JCI accredited, and world-class treatments, procedures and facilities for global travelers.

Cardiac procedures, obesity and bariatric surgeries and cosmetic and plastic surgical procedures are just a few of the healthcare options available, and affordable to individuals, regardless of origin. Surgeries like hip replacements, atrial septal defect repair, gastric bypass and face-lifts are just a few of the techniques people are crossing borders for.

Hospitals and facilities abroad have applied for (and received) international accreditation by institutions such as WHO (World Health Organization), JCI (Joint Commissions International) and the Trent Accreditation Scheme. Such organizations represent quality patient care, safety standards, and the newest in technological developments and techniques.

For more information about excellent and affordable cross-border travel in medical and dental fields, access PlacidWay.com.

New medical technologies continue to develop as the year 2011 runs to a close. From analyzing someone’s breath to diagnose multiple sclerosis to developments in nanotechnology, medical doctors, scientists and researchers have been busy. New tools have been developed to help reduce errors in diabetic care. This ‘computer dashboard’ allow doctors to instantly access their patient’s vital signs, medications, lab test results and current health condition.

Researchers have found that alternative therapies such as yoga may help counteract the symptoms of fibromyalgia and that acupuncture can affect how the brain regulates pain signals. Yoga has also been studied as a drug-free therapy for back pain. Pain caused by fibromyalgia has been directly linked to a change in certain molecules in the brain.

Researchers have also determined how and why cancer therapies like chemotherapy cause a drop in a patient’s platelet count, and that certain gene defects can increase a person’s risk of eventually developing leukemia.

Exciting developments in bioengineering have resulted in the creation of bioengineered spinal disc implants to help treat chronic neck and back pain.

Facilities in the U.S. and abroad continually offer new therapies and treatments for hundreds of medical conditions, including vision or hearing loss, cancer therapies, spine conditions and neurodegenerative conditions such as fibromyalgia. Every day brings exciting new discoveries in dozens of medical fields, offering patients around the world hope and improved quality of life.

From genetic cell modification to stem cell research and anti-cancer agents, medical technology, clinical trials, studies and research continue in the hopes of easing pain, increasing mobility and improving quality of life for all.

If you’re having trouble reading this post, have you considered that you might need corrective vision treatment?  Sadly, our vision care is usually the most neglected aspect of our health and wellness care. However, ignoring your eye care and eye health may have devastating effects.

Vision problems such as cataracts, blurred vision, cloudy vision, and astigmatism, amblyopia, myopia, and others, are often ignored until vision is severely impaired. The problem is, access to eye clinic facilities and opportunities aren’t available in many regions, and regular eye exams, glasses, contacts, or other corrective vision treatments are often beyond the means of many.

Cataracts are only treatable through surgery. Minimally invasive surgery like LASIK eye care treats vision problems including near and farsightedness, and blurred or double vision.

Diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and corneal grafts or corneal transplants are performed at high-tech, state of the art and world-class  facilities around the world like the  BLK Memorial Hospital in India. You can find affordable LASIK vision therapies and eye care clinics from India to Mexico, at facilities like Family Hospital (Hospital de la Familia) in Mexicali. Scanhealth, in Haugesund, Norway and Surgical Bliss, in Cape Town, South Africa are wonderful destinations for both a vacation and your eye surgery.

For Lasik care abroad, or affordable eye hospitals in Singapore to the best Lasik surgery in Norway, visit PlacidWay.com, your one-stop resource for information about eye care, surgeries and certified Lasik professionals and ophthalmologists abroad.

Tell them that medical tourism is not considered a viable option for care.

Turkey utilizes the most advanced technologies in the world in the fields of oncology and plastic surgery. They also take advantage of daVinci robotic surgery, a method of high-tech heart and prostate surgeries. Due to their willingness to step into the 21st century of medical care and health and wellness services, Turkey is rated one of the best for accessibility and lower health costs throughout Europe. Clinics, hospitals and outpatient treatment centers in  Istanbul, Izmir and Kusadasi offer quality medical care in modern and relaxed atmospheres.

Ultra-modern facilities such as Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Hizmet Hospital, located in Istanbul offer global patients the best Turkish physicians and surgeons. Female fertility treatment in Istanbul as well as male fertility treatment in Turkey offer affordable and effective treatments to those hoping to conceive. The field of medical tourism is a growing option for surgery abroad, cheap surgery (not meant to imply inexperienced or lesser quality surgery) and medical travel. Still, take the time to plan and organize for your not only medical stay in a beautiful and high-quality medical facility in a foreign country, but to make the most of the experience.

Before you venture off for any type of wellness tourism, make sure that you have a valid and signed passport (most countries require at least several blank pages and may require six blank pages) and a non-expired visa if you visit a medical facility in a country that requires visas. Whether you’re traveling to Mexico or Croatia, know what you need before you go.

Always complete the emergency contact information in your passport, have the contact name, and phone number of consular personnel from the nearest U.S. Embassy for your intended destination for emergencies. Register with the State Department, which you can do online, so they can contact you in the event of an emergency back home. Registering also allows your safety in the event of trouble overseas (this can include a natural disaster or a threat from local politics or issues), and enables you to receive up-to-date warnings if anything’s going on in your intended travel area.

Dozens of countries abroad offer safe, effective and beautiful medical destinations for health and wellness and care in fields ranging from dentistry to spine surgery. PlacidWay, an international medical resource and provider based in Denver, Colorado, wants you to enjoy and benefit from your medical travel abroad. Still, be prepared, plan accordingly and have a safe trip.
