Perhaps you know someone who traveled south of the border, or even across an ocean to receive medical care abroad. More people are traveling to locations like Mexico to receive immediate and excellent care for dental needs, weight loss procedures and treatments, and a variety of cosmetic and plastic surgery treatments that range from non-invasive to full-on face-lifts.

Still, Mexico isn’t the only medical tourism ‘hot-spot’ around – medical care facilities and providers in locations like Turkey, Croatia and other countries like Thailand, Singapore and India have created partnerships with major medical centers in Great Britain, Western Europe, and the United States.  South American providers are seeing a large influx of medical travelers seeking the best in cosmetic and obesity surgery procedures in Brazil and Argentina.

Locations throughout southeast Asia are hotspots as well for travelers from the Middle East and African continent regions for services including:

  • Dental care
  • Vision
  • Cancer treatments
  • Orthopedic technologies
  • Fertility treatments
  • Cardiac care
  • Cosmetic and plastic surgical procedures

If you don’t want to wait for healthcare prices to come down (and they won’t), and you need health care services or surgery now to enhance your range of motion, health and wellness, or for pain relief, check out your options abroad. Don’t forget to consider traveling abroad to deal with your medical that aren’t being met at home. Informative websites like PlacidWay.com offer detailed resources and accredited and certified medical facilities and providers around the globe.

Remember, you ARE worth it.

Accreditation shows quality, and in healthcare environments, guarantees that facilities have met minimum standards and guidelines offered by various domestic and international quality boards.

For example, individuals desire quality in healthcare, whether for dental, cosmetic, bariatric or other treatments and surgical procedures. Patients deserve to know that staff is trained, facilities are clean and that procedures follow standards that reduce chances of error, infection or negligence.

Medical travelers must take the time to assess standards of care in foreign destinations. Take into consideration the following factors:

  • Education and certification of facility medical staff
  • Continuing educational opportunities for medical staff
  • Track record of the clinic or hospital
  • Infection control measures
  • Potential risk of tropical disease/infections

Whether you’re seeking alternative cancer treatments in Turkey or the latest in spine surgery technology from South Korea, increased mobility with a knee or hip replacement surgical procedure in India, or dental implants in Mexico, make sure the facility you choose is accredited.

Facilities with accreditations granted by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and/or the Joint Commission International (JCI) receive higher ratings, income, and interest from medical travelers. An International Organization for Standardization (ISO) rating accredits reputable medical institutions, no matter where they are located.

For more information regarding accreditation and credentials of medical facilities abroad, visit PlacidWay.com, an international medical resource and provider that offers global travelers the best in medical and dental care services.

Thanks to technology, an electronic medical record makes it easier to share and transfer medical information between physicians in your country as well as foreign medical providers. This capability makes medical tourism easier than ever. Why change from paper to electronic records? For several reasons. First, to save on administration costs in tracking and filing sometimes-massive amounts of paper accumulated for patients.

Not only that, but electronic records increase speed and efficiency in health care delivery options. Electronic records can be accesses through secure passwords, fingerprints and voice-activated software that increase use of telemetry, an increasingly popular mode of communication between physicians. Your doctor in the U.K. can talk directly with and share data-secured medical information from your health record to a cancer specialist in India, Turkey or the U.S. in a matter of moments.

You worry about confidentiality, but electronic medical records are safer and more secure than your paper record. Computer and IT technology only gives direct access to your medical record to those qualified to view and share your information. Identification systems ensure security and sharing systems ensure your confidentiality. Instead of faxing your information to another doctor or medical provider, for all to see, your private information is transmitted through a secure hospital system network right into the hands of the doctor who needs it and no one else.

As more people travel across borders for health and wellness, cancer therapy, orthopedic surgery, dental care and cosmetic surgery or fertility treatments, ease of transfer of information improves and benefits your care.

Need dental work? Can’t afford it? Dentists and oral surgeons in foreign destinations such as India and Mexico offer excellent, experienced and qualified dental care, whether you need flap surgery or a sinus lift operation. There’s nothing quite so painful as a throbbing tooth or jaw, and dental care is important for your overall health.

Dental tourists traveling to locations such as Mexico and India for oral health save hundreds if not thousands of dollars on treatments. This is not because of lack of quality materials, equipment or expertise. Dental care treatments and approaches to dental health and wellness are cheaper in other countries because of a different health care delivery system, coupled with much lower demand for medical malpractice insurance.

The most common dental treatments and procedures include:

  • Oral surgery
  • Prosthodontics
  • Periodontitic procedures
  • Orthodontics
  • Endodontic procedures
  • Oral surgery

Want more specifics? Here are just a few most popular dental treatments for moderate to severe dental complications and surgeries:

  • Flap surgery
  • Bone grafting
  • Guided tissue regeneration (GTR)
  • Connective tissue graphing
  • Sinus lift operations
  • Ridge augmentation
  • Full mouth rehabilitation

Of course, if you just want a brighter smile, international dental facilities from Cancun to Bangalore offer teeth whitening, crowns, veneers and bridgework and dentures for huge savings. While you’re traveling or on vacation, why not check out your options for dental care abroad. For more information regarding qualified dental facilities and dentists abroad, visit PlacidWay.com.

Dianne’s dentist told her she could use dental onlays to improve not only her biting and chewing ability, but also to allow her to smile again without feeling self-conscious. Dianne had gone through some tough times, and now had teeth damaged and chipped by accidents, cavities and poor interior structure of her tooth pulp on the right side of her lower jaw. Her dentist told her that onlays could cover deep damage caused by such decay and fractures. An onlay could restore the shape and strength to the crowns of her damaged teeth, in order to prevent more damage.

For Dianne, the idea was heartening, but the problem was, she had no dental insurance and a single onlay could cost between $650 and $1,200 – money she just didn’t have. Dianne was an immigrant to the U.S. from her native Croatia who decided to return to her county for the dental care. There, she knew she could get the same procedure for less.

Dental care in major cities like Dubrovnik and Rovinj offers dental travelers affordable dental treatment and dental cosmetic and restorative procedures including dental implants, oral surgery, prosthetics and other forms of esthetic dentistry and dental implantology. Dianne searched online for dental treatment in Croatia and found several dentists and facilities that could meet her needs. She could travel to her native country, receive the treatments, stay for a week with family, and still come out ahead on costs.

Dianne did just that. Now she’s smiling again.

Poady, a 33-year old woman from Canada, desperately needed dental implants, not only for cosmetic reasons, but to help her chew food and to maintain the shape and structure of her lower jaw and face. In her native town in Canada (she lived out in the boonies), she found few options that she could choose from that left her filled with confidence. So, so she used the computer at her local library to search for options.

Poady needed both upper jaw and lower jaw dental implants, and she learned about the different types of implant materials, designs and technologies commonly used abroad, including dental implants created by:

  • Nobel Biocare – this Swedish company offers implants, bridges and crowns for advanced techniques into tooth reconstruction.
  • Zimmer - This California Company makes implants for periodontitis, prosthodontics, oral surgery and pedodontics. Brands include the BioMend Extend Membrane, Hex Lock Contour Abutments, one piece implants and particulate allografts.
  • Straumann - This Swiss company focuses on oral tissue regeneration technologies and products, and restorative dentistry, including implants.
  • Biomet 3i -This Florida Company has been around for decades and offers various dental implants and abutments.

Dental facilities in destinations like Costa Rica offer dentistry travel packages for local transportation and lodging in bed and breakfasts and hotels, consultations, anesthetics, and follow-up services, depending on your needs. Poady read about several dental facilities abroad that offered up to six dental implants, airfare, accommodations and her dental procedures may cost less than three dental implants alone in the United States or Great Britain, it’s not hard to see why Poady opted to travel to Costa Rica for her dental care.
